Is Residual Payments Worth It?

This post may contain affiliate links. I will earn a small commission (at no cost to you) if you buy a product using my links. Thank you for your support!

Up until now, I have never heard of a digital payments business. However, after coming across the Residual Payments website, it has certainly piqued my interest.

Residual Payments is the home of Patricia and David Carlin. They are digital payment experts. They sell an online training program called Digital Payments Revolution that teaches how to create residual income off of credit card payments.

In this post, I’m going to do a quick review of what a digital payments business is and what the Residual Payments website and course are all about.

What is Residual Payments?

Coming across the Residual Payments website had me wondering what type of business David and Patricia Carlin are in.

Reading that they are digital payment experts still left me scratching my head.

Upon further reading, I discovered that a digital payment expert is someone who is authorized to allow a business to accept credit card or bank debit card transactions online or a POS (point of sale) system.

When these payment processors are set up by a digital payment expert, they receive a small percentage of each sale. These small commissions add up and thus can lead to a lucrative income.

The Residual Payments website introduces you to the founders and the training course they have put together.

Residual Payments Revolution Training Course

This course was put together by Patricia and David Carlin and it shares the exact same strategies they have used to generate millions of dollars in commissions.

The topics covered in the training include:

  • Meeting the Carlins and learning how they went from zero to six figures per month.
  • Intro to credit card processing.
  • The size of the opportunity.
  • Learn why digital payments are the most lucrative and stable residual income.
  • How simple and doable the business is.
  • 3 simple steps in becoming a digital payments agent.

The price of Residual Payments Revolution is $17 and includes a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Now, in most cases, a low-priced product like this serves as a tripwire product. A tripwire product is an introductory product in the first of many that are within a sales funnel.

The purpose is to whet your appetite for what the complete training course has to offer.

My research has found that after buying the initial training, there are upsells that range from $197 to $5K or more.

Is Residual Payments a Scam or Legit?

There is nothing about this training program or its founders that makes me think it is a scam. What I do think is that this business model isn’t as easy as you may think.

I like the fact that you earn commissions for each sale that is processed. It is a great way to earn passive income and those commissions can really add up!

However, it will take a lot of hard work to build up clientele. You’ll have to learn how to sell your service and convince business owners to choose you over other payment processing services.

A bulk of your business will likely involve prospecting and closing sales.

There is a lot to learn and it makes sense to learn from those that have the experience. This is what makes a course like Digital Payments Revolution valuable.

How Much Does Digital Payments Revolution Cost?

The initial training program is currently priced at $17. I am almost certain that there are upsells for a more robust training course.

It wouldn’t make sense not to have a more expensive product in the sales funnel. I searched for what the upsell products cost and found pricing at $197 and $5K.

You definitely have to decide if this business model is something that you actually want to do.

It may require a large investment for the advanced training course and if you don’t plan to follow through and take action on what you learn, it is a waste of money.

The Pros and Cons of a Merchant Processing Business

There are new businesses popping up every day in your local area as well as local merchants already successfully doing business.

As a digital payments expert, you have the opportunity to build up your clientele and generate a steady passive income.

Keep in mind that it will require hard work and consistent effort to operate this type of business. Let’s consider some pros and cons.

Pros of Merchant Processing

  • Passive income
  • Work from home
  • Lucrative income
  • Plenty of opportunities

Cons of Merchant Processing

  • It may be slow starting out
  • Requires consistent lead generation and sales
  • Competitive (you must compete with other merchant processors local merchants may already be using)
  • You must be comfortable with sales

Although this is a passive income business model it is still very hands-on when it comes to obtaining clients.

You should be prepared to do lead generation as well as set appointments with potential clients and present them with your service.

This is especially true if you are approaching local merchants that may be already set up with a payment processor already.

If you already have sales experience, this could be an easy transition for you. Otherwise, you’ll have to develop these skills.

An Alternative Way to Make Commissions

A digital payments business is not for everyone. Personally, becoming a digital payments agent is not interesting enough for me.

The thought of doing in-person sales does not sit well with me. When I worked in the corporate world, I did not look forward to meeting with clients.

I like to enjoy what I do and earn income from it. Thankfully, I have found something that I enjoy doing and it doesn’t require building a client list.

The method of earning commissions that I’m referring to is called affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is the process of promoting another company’s products in exchange for a commission when a sale is made.

It is all done online. You never need any clients. You’ll never need to buy, store, pack, or ship products.

You don’t have to meet with anyone and you can operate it all on your own or outsource work as your business grows.

How to Get Started

Unlike a digital payments business, you don’t need much at all to get started in affiliate marketing.

You won’t ever need any sales scripts or do any cold calling. In fact, you’ll never need to deal with clients.

Everything is done online and only requires a domain name, web hosting, and a WordPress website installed on your web hosting account.

Obtaining what you need is as simple as following some basic step-by-step instructions. I recommend following the same online training program I used.

The training will explain what affiliate marketing is as well as help you set up your first niche website.

If you prefer to do it on your own, you can get everything that you need with almost any web hosting provider.

Why Affiliate Marketing is a Great Option for Beginners

Creating a passive income stream will be challenging for anyone. There are some business models that have a lower barrier to entry and affiliate marketing is one of them.

It is a low-cost and low-risk option that makes it ideal for beginners. There is a small learning curve and there are so many benefits to starting this type of online business.

Some of my favorite benefits of affiliate marketing include:

  • Low-cost (get started for under $50)
  • Low-risk (it’s primarily an investment of your time)
  • Work from anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection
  • Unlimited earning potential
  • Tons of affiliate programs to join
  • Choose any niche you want

As mentioned above, earning income with affiliate marketing is primarily an investment of your time.

The time investment is you creating content for your website in the form of blog posts. It is your content that attracts free targeted web visitors.

A percentage of these visitors will click on your affiliate links and buy the products that you recommend.

You earn commissions on every sale that you make. Similar to the types of commissions you can earn as a digital payments expert.

The big difference is that you get to create a niche website on a topic that you enjoy and promote various products related to your niche.

If you want to learn more about how this works, you can read my story of how I was able to transition out of a full-time retail job to work on my website full-time.

Closing Thoughts On Residual Payments Revolution

This training program offers a great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the merchant process industry.

I don’t doubt that with dedication and consistent effort, anyone can take what they’ve learned and create a steady passive income.

This business model isn’t for everyone. If you want an alternative way to make passive income, my number one recommendation is to create a niche website and earn income with affiliate marketing.
