When it comes to answering the question, can you make money doing other people’s laundry? – the answer is a most definite yes.

I once thought about starting a laundry service. Laundry is a chore that many people put off until the very last minute.

This is especially true if you are in an apartment and have to share a laundry room or use a laundromat.

Many people have busy schedules. Between work and school, the laundry piles up quick and that’s where you can cash in.

How Do I Start My Own Laundry Service at Home?

Doing other people’s laundry is an easy side business to start. If you own a washer and dryer, you can use them to make some extra income.

Using a laundromat isn’t cost-effective. The average load cost at a laundromat can be around $3.50. Therefore, you would have to charge significantly more for your service than your competitors.

Starting on your own will require a few things. First, you’ll need to come up with a name for your business. Personally, I would include the service in the name such as “Door to Door Laundry Service” or something of that nature.

The key is to have laundry somewhere in your business name so that people know exactly what you are offering.

The next step is to get a website. This is optional but I highly recommend it. As you begin branding your business, people may want to look you up to find details about services and pricing.

Setting Up Your Website

All that you need is a WordPress website and some type of business-related WordPress theme.

First, register your domain name. I use NameCheap to register all of my domain names.

Next, you will need a web hosting provider. A web host is a service that hosts your website. There are more than enough to choose from. A service like a2Hosting should be sufficient.

The web hosting company will then provide you with your nameserver information that you will need to update at the place you purchased your domain name.

Then you can use one-click WordPress auto-install software to create your WordPress website.

Decide On Your Business Entity

Will you run your business as a sole proprietor, partnership, or LLC? The type of business entity that you choose will determine how you pay business taxes as well as if you have liability protection.

You may want to speak with a tax attorney or other business professional to help you figure out the best option for your laundry service business.

Obtain a Business License

Another key step is to get your business license. Every state and city has its own requirements. You can easily find out what they are by doing a web search.

A business license usually involves filling out some paperwork and paying a fee. Check what the requirements are for where you reside.

How Much To Charge for Doing a Load of Laundry?

There are a couple of ways to handle this. You can charge by the pound or charge per laundry bag. For example, you could charge $2 per pound or $4 per laundry bag.

Before settling in on a price, you’ll want to take several factors into consideration such as mileage, gas, and supplies.

Laundry Services That You Provide

You can offer quite a few different services. Here are some that you can brainstorm or consider for your business:

  • Folding
  • Hanging
  • Ironing
  • Washing large blankets/comforters
  • Same day delivery (extra fee)

How Can I Expand My Laundry Business?

Once you have your laundry business set up, it is a matter of promoting your business to get new clients.

There are two types of marketing methods that you can pursue which are free and paid. Free methods can include creating free accounts on all of the major social media platforms.

Paid methods include advertising on platforms such as Facebook ads, Instagram ads, Google Adwords, and more.

There is also word-of-mouth. Let your friends, family, and neighbors know about your new business.

Create business cards and leave them in small business locations such as coffee shops, gyms, etc.

Doing Laundry for Others App

If you do not want to deal with setting up your own business, you can use laundry service apps to make money doing other people’s laundry.

Laundry Service Apps

Here are a few laundry service apps that I came across:

Using one of the above laundry service apps can save you the time and hassle of setting up your own business.

Another benefit is that you get a built-in audience that can help land you your first customers.

One thing to keep in mind about these laundry apps is that some of them are limited to only a few select cities.

If you cannot find an app that works in your city, you’ll likely have to go the route of creating your own small business.

Can You Make Money Doing Other People’s Laundry – My Closing Thoughts

Doing other people’s laundry is an easy way to make some extra income. People will pay for convenience and who doesn’t want someone else to do their laundry?

For some, doing other people’s laundry for income is not a long-term strategy. Unless you can grow your own business into having employees to do the work for you, it can definitely wear on you after a while.

In the end, you are trading your time for money. A better option is to build an asset that generates passive income.

One such option is to build a niche affiliate website. A niche affiliate website can earn passive income 24/7. Meaning, you could make sales while you sleep or while you’re doing your own laundry!

I was able to do just that by creating a niche website of my own. It still requires hard work and dedication but it is made easier by following an affiliate marketing training course as I did.

All that is required is choosing a niche that you are interested in, building a WordPress website around that niche, driving traffic to your website, and monetizing it with affiliate products that you earn commissions on.

It eas easy to learn and anyone can do it. You can learn everything you need using the same step-by-step training I used and am still a part of today.
