I’m the first to say that there is no such thing as “easy” money online. However, a lot of the coaching offers I come across make it seem extremely easy to earn tens of thousands per month by selling high-ticket online courses and coaching.
High-ticket coaching is an online business model in which you offer an online course (in most cases) in a specific niche that includes one-on-one or group coaching with your clients. The strategy includes inbound lead generation, starting conversations with prospects, and closing sales calls.
While the potential high income in a short amount of time seems tempting, it is not as easy as the coaching gurus make it out to be. Let’s explore the reality of high-ticket coaching.
High Ticket Coaching Offers
As an affiliate marketer, I come across a lot of targeted ads for coaching offers. After a while, I started to wonder why this was such a thing.
Why are there so many coaches selling products teaching others how to sell high-ticket coaching?
For one thing, it makes the sellers of these products A LOT of money. In turn, they make their offers come across as “the solution” for starting or ramping up your own coaching business.
It wasn’t until I came across Richard Yu coaching on YouTube that I began to dive deeper down the rabbit hole of high-ticket coaching.
I began to learn that a lot of these high-ticket coaches learned the business model from their own high-ticket mentors.
A Prime Coaching Offer Example
For example, Richard Yu managed to get mentored by Vince Del Monte who himself runs a million dollar per year coaching business.
Vince Del Monte’s background is in fitness and his coaching involves training other fitness professionals how to create high-ticket coaching businesses.
Richard learned the ins-and-outs of the business by working directly in it and doing hundreds of inside closing sales calls for Vince.
Now Richard sells his own product and coaching that teaches anyone how to create a high-ticket course and coaching program from scratch with zero experience.
He often shares that his average student earns $10,000 per month within their first 30-days of starting the program.
Who doesn’t want to pull in that kind of income with no experience? Sign me up!
Before we get carried away, we really should peel back the layers of what really happens when getting sucked in by these different offers.
Is High Ticket Coaching a Scam?
I don’t consider these coaching services to be a scam. However, they do attempt to make the offer appear to be exclusive and only the real go-getters have a chance to be a part of the program.
Continuing on with Richard Yu as an example, the strategy for running a high-ticket coaching business involves what is referred to as the C4 method.
This method includes for processes:
- Closing call
This first step of the process requires creating lead generation content. This is content that offers value to your niche on various platforms such as Facebook groups, Instagram, and YouTube.
Let’s say for example that you are in the fitness niche. You would join active Facebook groups in your niche and reply to people’s posts with helpful advice.
That is supposed to spark a conversation, and thus, you add that person as a friend and then invite them to schedule a phone or Zoom consultation.
The same goes for a platform like Instagram. You post stories and photos with info on how you can help your niche and use call-to-action statements such as, DM me “Help” or “I’m ready” in order for prospects to take action and lead to further conversation.
Once you have prospects responding to you on platforms like Facebook groups, Instagram, and YouTube, you can strike up conversations with them.
This is where you can learn more about their goals, current obstacles, etc. If the conversation goes well, you can then invite them to schedule an appointment on a calendar app to book a phone call or Zoom call.
The closing call is where you continue the conversation with your prospects. You get to know if what you offer can really serve their needs and help them meet their goals.
If so, you can then close this lead and collect payment. High ticket coaching offers require a call because of the price of what you offer.
Most people are not going to drop $2K or more on a website without knowing much about the coach.
Face-to-face sales builds another level of trust and on the call is where you collect payment for your service.
What to Be Aware Of
Even with all the promise of success that many of these coaching programs offer, there is another side to the story.
In this high ticket coaching article, you’ll get an in-depth view of someone’s experience of buying into several expensive coaching programs with little results to show for it.
It’s important to do your research before investing into anyone’s coaching program. There are some high-quality coaches out there and then there are some that may not be the best fit for you.
Can Anyone Do High Ticket Coaching?
If coaching is your calling, that is a path you should explore. However, if you want to do coaching simply for the high earning potential, think again.
Coaching involves helping people and if that isn’t what you truly want to do and only are after the money, chances are you will be miserable with the work involved.
Even someone with zero experience may have a desire to help people and often that is enough to pursue such a career path.
You should also ask yourself if you’re going to be comfortable with the multiple conversations you’ll be having with prospects as well as the closing calls.
These are skills you’ll have to develop, and yes, you’ll have to stretch beyond your comfort zone. However, client interaction is a pain point for many people and this business model may not be ideal.
The Reality of What is Most Likely Involved with High Ticket Coaching
The promise of a 4 and 5-figure income per month seems doable when all that is involved include attracting highly interested leads and closing them with a video call.
Besides that, many of these coaching programs entice you with the results of successful students. It could be you! Do you have what it takes? That is the type of marketing you’ll come across.
The truth is, you’ll have to put in a lot of work and learn a lot of new skills. Even with implementing all of these strategies, there is no guarantee that you’ll earn your investment back.
Who knows what the stand out success stories had that you didn’t. Did they already have a following on social media? Are they great closers?
Do they have a natural talent with speaking with people and making sales? Sometimes you have to think beyond what is being shown to you in the marketing.
Buying Additional Software Services
More than likely you will need to set up a lead generation funnel. A funnel is a type of website that offers some type of incentive such as a free training webinar or ebook.
Visitors to your funnel can receive your freebie offer by inputting their contact information such as their name, email, and phone number.
This enables you to follow up with your web leads. Having a funnel requires funnel software which an range in the hundreds of dollars per month for some services.
You’ll also need email marketing software and possible video hosting software.
Creating Lead Magnets
A lead magnet is the freebie mentioned above that entices people to input their contact information on your website (funnel.)
You can create a video lead magnet that teaches something helpful or a PDF lead magnet in the form of an ebook with valuable content.
High Level of Social Media Activity
Generating new leads will be a non-stop task for you. Especially if you do not want to pay for advertising. It may mean posting on Instagram and Facebook 4 to 5 times per day.
Social media is a primary way to begin the conversation process. You create valuable content and use strong call-to-actions to get people to respond to your posts.
Going Live On Facebook & YouTube
Doing live videos is another great way to build your following and get people to reach out to you.
Offer a free training and pitch a free phone or video call at the end.
For some coaches, free traffic generation is not enough and depending on the coaching you’ve invested in, paid strategies may be part of the curriculum.
Tire Kickers & Information Junkies
You’ll also have to deal with a lot of tire kickers and information junkies with all of the free content that you create.
Many people will book calls with you only to reply with a “maybe later” or “can I think about it?” with no intent of ever buying your product.
You may even have many people booking calls only to learn how your lead generation process works.
Closing sales calls are a critical part of this online business model. If you can’t close your prospects, you won’t bring in the necessary income to keep your business going.
A good coaching program should teach you the skills to do closing calls without having to rely solely on a script.
If you are hesitant to invest thousands of dollars into a coaching program, it is with good reason.
It is difficult to spend that much money without any guarantee of success.
Although no business model has any guarantees, you still want to make sure your money is well spent on a coach and training program that is reputable and gets results.
