It seems that a lot of affiliate marketers have a YouTube channel. It may leave you wondering if you can do affiliate marketing without YouTube. The answer is yes.
When I started my online business as an affiliate marketer, I did not become active on my YouTube channel for a year into it.
I was making money from the content I was creating on my blog.
While YouTube is an excellent free traffic source, it isn’t required to begin earning a consistent income online.
I’ll share what I do as an affiliate marketer to make affiliate commissions on a regular basis.
Niche Blogging for Affiliate Commissions
When I began affiliate marketing as a business, I knew that I wanted to create a niche blog. A niche blog is just a website that focuses on a specific topic.
Creating a niche blog is one of the lowest-cost and easiest ways to begin as an affiliate marketer.
The low cost and ease of creation were two of the reasons I chose this route. Niche blogging is beginner-friendly and it is a tried-and-true method to earning a consistent income online.
This method of affiliate marketing has worked for years and will continue to work for many years to come.
Choosing a Niche
The first part of creating a niche blog is to choose a niche. A niche is simply a group of people interested in the same thing.
There are millions of niches to choose from. Consider some of the hobbies or things that you are passionate about.
I always recommend choosing a niche that you have a genuine interest in. If you want some ideas for niches, consider some of these:
- Strength training
- Vegan cooking
- Fashion on a budget
- Making more money
Whatever niche you choose, you can earn income online from it. Having a genuine interest in your niche will make it easier for you to create content.
Content is the bread and butter of your blog. Without content, there is nothing for the search engines to rank.
That being said, it isn’t ideal to post once and then wait three weeks to post again.
An active blog is a crawled blog. Meaning, the more active your blog, the more the search engines will crawl your website and index your pages for ranking.
Choosing an Affiliate Program
You will want to choose an affiliate product or products that you want to market on your blog.
This product should be related to your niche. For example, if you were to create a niche blog about skincare, you could find various skincare products that have affiliate programs.
You could then review these products and recommend them within your blog posts using your affiliate links.
When people click on your affiliate links and buy the products, you earn a commission.
Note: Affiliate links are provided to you by the affiliate programs once you are approved and added to their system.
Keep in mind that many affiliate programs do have an approval process. Most are not strict in their requirements but most will require you to have a website.
That is another reason why a niche blog is essential for an affiliate marketer.
You can search for affiliate programs easily by typing in “your niche + affiliate program” or “product + affiliate program”.
Key Elements of Niche Blogging
I have been blogging off and on for several years. I’ve only been serious about niche blogging for about three years as of this writing.
Therefore, I have learned many things along the way when it comes to making money with a blog.
1. Blog with Consistency
The biggest mistake that I made in the past was treating my blogs as a hobby.
I would write when I felt like it so my posts were few and far between for any given blog that I owned.
When I didn’t get much traffic, I would decide that blogging didn’t work and there was no way to make money online.
It wasn’t until I found the Wealthy Affiliate training course that helped me change my mindset and finally treat my blogs as a business.
2. Write Helpful Content for Your Niche
Another mistake that I made in the past was writing thin content. Meaning, my content wasn’t helpful to my audience.
I would write about five paragraphs at best and hit publish. Content of that length will not fly today.
Search engines like Google want to serve the best results to their user’s queries. That is the job of the search engines.
Your job as a niche blogger is to help your audience with as much information as you can.
You do not need to be a great writer, nor do you have to be an expert in your niche. Create content to help people and you are on the right track.
3. Choose Affiliate Products with Decent Commissions
There are millions of affiliate products that you can begin promoting so there are plenty for whatever niche your blog is in.
In order to make a good income from your blog, it helps to choose affiliate products that have a decent commission.
Affiliate programs can pay anywhere from 1% to 75% commissions (in rare instances, sometimes more.)
Therefore, it may not be worth it to promote products with very low commissions. Shop around until you find a product that is worth the time and effort of promoting.
The more familiar you are with the product the better. You will be able to write genuine reviews and your recommendations will be genuine.
I’ve had the best success by promoting products that I’ve personally used.
My Personal Opinion On YouTube Marketing
While you can do affiliate marketing without YouTube, I wouldn’t permanently discount it.
There is a reason why so many affiliate marketers (including myself) have a YouTube channel.
It is the second-largest search engine behind Google. I’ve managed to drive traffic to my blogs as well as make many affiliate sales by posting links in my video descriptions.
Besides that, I even earn income from my YouTube videos with Google’s Adsense program.
By not implementing YouTube at some point, you are leaving money on the table. If being on camera intimidates you, don’t let it.
There are many videos that I’ve created in which I am not in them at all. Here is one I created which is all screen capture:
I use Screencast-O-Matic to make my videos. You have the option to capture only your screen, your webcam, or both at the same time.
My Closing Thoughts On Can You Do Affiliate Marketing Without YouTube
I hope this post has exposed you to another method of becoming an affiliate marketer without using YouTube.
